  1. Ziji says:

    Dog bless!

  2. ophelia says:

Evil spelled backward is “live”, so what’s the message there?

  3. right says:

    there is no god anyway.

    • jamisings says:

Yes there is. Grow up and get over yourself.

      • Khaaaaaaan says:

Get over themselves? Who’s the self-righteous one here?

      • Brandon_ha says:

Wait wait wait…… you’re telling “right” to grow up? You do realize that you’re the one with the imaginary friend, right?

        • CottlestonPie says:

There’s no call for anyone to be sneering at someone else’s beliefs. Anyone.

          • Default User says:

            Agreed.

          • Alex says:

So if someone’s beliefs include believing that anyone who goes against the teachings of their religion should be killed, should we not sneer at that?

            • CottlestonPie says:

Look, this is not the time or the place for being ugly to people. If someone posted here about killing someone for their beliefs, I hope the post would be reported to the moderators and removed.

Other than that, let’s not turn this into a nasty fight, okay? People are free to believe or not to believe in God. And free to not have someone else snarking at them about it.

              • Alex says:

My point is not to be snarky. My point is that if someone’s belief is patently ridiculous, you can sneer at it. Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but no gets to be immune from criticism just because “It’s their belief.”

                • CottlestonPie says:

But who gets to decide what’s ridiculous? Obviously some people here think that believing in God is ridiculous. Does that give them the right to pick at people who do believe in God? (Or vice versa?)

My point is simply that Cheezburger/Hotdog is not the place for theological debate. That’s all.

                  • Alex says:

Anyone can decide something is ridiculous, as long as they offer a sound argument or evidence. For example, if someone claims that the Earth is only 6,000-10,000 years old, I’m going to say that’s ridiculous because it flies in the face of mountains of scientific evidence, not to mention common sense. I don’t care that it’s their belief, opinions are not immune to criticism.

And if people are going to create religiously themed loldog captions, and the mods are going to put said captions up, then I feel completely justified in having a religiously themed debate.

                    • CottlestonPie says:

Okay, fine. Debate. But debate means two-way conversation. Not simply making obnoxious pronouncements just to piss people off. (I’m not saying that’s what you’re doing. But the original post that started this [and the first response to it] was nothing but trolling for reactions.)

      • Alex says:

Not to some… your comment was just as offensive and pushy as right’s comment was.

      • Elgonko says:

If you just wish harder, maybe Jeebus and the tooth fairy will come to visit!!

    • cTo says:

      Pretty poor attempt at lulz.

  4. Khaaaaaaan says:

Do autoparanoid schizophrenic dyslexic agnostic insomniacs lie awake at night wondering if they just might be the DOG that’s out to get them?

  5. Sqwirk says:

Well, the dog looks quite happy with themselves :)

  6. langjob says:

Well, the Orthodox Church can be quite dogmatic…

  7. Mufa says:

:) ) us romanians welcome everybody to church! :) )

  8. Leisa says:

Is that Metropolitan Jonah on the right? What a great picture!

  9. Kitty says:

“Mommy mommy, did you know ‘dog’ spelled backwards is ‘God’?”

“Very good dear, you’re such a clever girl.”

    “….kill your parents Tracey.”

    “I will God!”

Anyone who doesn’t watch Robot Chicken won’t get that.

  10. ASHIM says:

2 me Ze truth is tru fur the ones who sees it. If a greater power that can run aouuu day exist, them it mades the fur too, if not, the fur is campaning for the job!! – BAD GIRL!

  11. exhoicat says:

The Puritans, and other fanatics, who settled what is now New England really believed that dogs were evil precisely because DOG is GOD spelled backwards. Other religions, going back as far as the Romans polytheism, also consider dogs to be “unclean” or from the Hades, or the Underworld. I don’t know why.

    Poor puppies!

    • exhoicat says:

PS I also have to laugh every year when local non-Catholic churches celebrate St. Francis of Assisi by holding “blessing of the animals” events. Christian DOGma insists that only humans have souls, so what’s the point? (I know, I know. It’s to lure new sheeple into the fold.)

And “Beware of DOGma” by Dan BARKER is a VERY good CD…..heh!

      • srdv says:

Going by the general usage of “blessed” and various blessed things the point is to ask God to ensure that the whatever is blessed will be good to and for the faithful. If you want to know in detail the point of an animal blessing then get a copy of the prayers. The blessing prayer expresses the point of the blessing.

Also, isn’t it rude to refer people whose beliefs differ from yours “sheeple”?

      • Cyril says:

Actually, there’s plenty of instances of things other than humans being blessed by the Church. I don’t know why people start acting as if its something new when we start doing it with animals.

      • coyoteman says:

Well as an Episcopalian priest once told me it’s so they’ll be good for another year. :) BTW It’s not really true that Christians believe only humans have souls. Look up the legend of the Devil’s Bridge on St. Gotthard’s Pass.

      • Ignatz says:

Also the legend of St. Guinefort.

        http://www.beyond-the-pale.co.uk/dogsaints.htm

Churches are forces for good or for evil, depending on the men and women that comprise them.

  12. ASHIM says:

The deog is associated with the dead, as in Anubis, as they frewquented the cemetARIES. These weere on the @the brderlands’ or lans between the city towns of ancient egypt, Summer, ect. Life was easier for them there and they could eat all the offerings. Also when chistinity as a power movement- I would argue against christ message -to crush paganism to make place for there faith, laws, power, rthey had to vilify all the “pagan” (orriginal meaning, peasant) practices. So the Wolf spirit guides of the “american indans” and “witches”, Anubis, was livified. Some philosophy are based on fear, same as some responces to dogs and god today!! Hey nothing EVER changes!

  13. Mathiusdragoon says:

It’s kind of interesting to contrast this picture with what I know about Islam. As far as I know, Muslims consider dogs “unclean” and can only keep them as work animals, never as pets.

    • Alex says:

      And your point is?

    • CottlestonPie says:

It’s also interesting to note that this picture has nothing to do with Islam. Looks like Greek Orthodox to me.

    • ASHIM says:

Not by all denominations actually. All religions, the popular bit of the religion- or that is literally well known for and practiced by the main denominations and culture-rrligious groups- practices and beleives are not always parallell to those of orriginal interpretations of the orriginal scriptures, ect. especially since one of the agrred ish Islamic beleives is that the Islam begins with Adam, throught David, Christ, Jonas, ect. Ze problem is keeping the pest hygenically clean as opposed to religious purity/polution perspectives – which is if we think something is claen or not. Blood is never unclean when in our bodies, and is vritually sacred when ie giving blood to save a life, but never is if a best liks ur face with fresh mouse blood, if the beast do decide to defend u against said mouse. I live in hope!

  14. cgray says:

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that every atheist I’ve ever encountered was an insufferable assh@le.

  15. ASHIM says:

COULD WE PLEASEE peaasy pease change the subject and bash Cesar instead?? He is coming to UK to polute the mind of ours Furinesses!! Eek! My paranoia has found its orriginal focus? What CAN we do???
