  1. Spinax says:

    Oh plzzz!

    • Chris says:

You got a problem with this?

      • Zeli says:

        Well yeah… *I* do.

It’s just more mawkish “our soldiers are worthy of our absolute slavish devotion” mush. Total crap. They’re employed people doing what they’re employed to do.

        IMHO anyhway.

        • Carole says:

You’re entitled to your opinion. Our soldiers defend losers like you as well.

        • jackie says:

wow just when i think that people cant get anymore callous…. someone pops up….as the mother of an american soldier i can tell you that its not like any other job… when is the last time while going to work that you were shot at or worried about driving over a mine or had to help pick up a fallen comrade at your feet… they deserve all the mush that they want…….as far as Im concerned they’ve earned it!

      • Lee-Ann says:

Aggressive much Chris? How do you know what Spinax meant by that? they might have just meant ”Oh plzzz do spare a thought for the goggies” you dont know what they meant but ya just jumped right in there with that aggressive attitude!

  2. Nano's Mom says:

Of coarz we pray fer teh goggies ahl-sew. Day iz important part iafinkso.

    • Kwithie says:

Yesh, we finx gud fots foar awl ower milliterry men, wimmen an goggies an senz dem lubs. Happy Veterans Day, and thanks.

    • Your mother dear says:

nah i dont think dogs should be remembered along side humans, it is not nice for dead soliders, as much as i love dogs i dont find this picture funny or inspiring

      • Niggit says:

Of course they should. They give just as much. More, sometimes.

        • schleimeimer says:

You are right – dogs should be remembered ABOVE humans!

Don’t forget the dog doesn’t choose to be there and is performing a very dangerous task to save human lives simply because he/she has been trained to do so out of love for pleasing humans.

I have more respect for the dog than I could ever spare for someone who doesn’t appreciate this.

      • shaungrl says:

Dis doggie, if kept safe, maybe lets there be not so many dead soldiers. Rethink yourself.

        • Casa says:

Exactly, pleanty of dogs do dangerous stuff so their humans don’t have to. Thank the puppys for keeping their humans safe.

      • debbie says:

Sometimes these dogs risk their lives for your sons and daughters, why shouldn’t they be kept in our prayers?

      • Jessi says:

I think anybody who has had the lives of family saved by a War Dog would beg to differ. Look up Sgt. Stubby and see what he did for his fellow soldiers. Do you really think he shouldn’t be remembered along side humans? Without him, how many would be dead? In fact, with out him, how many may have never lived in the first place?

  3. winykittygirl says:

sending up a prayer to keep you as safe as our brave soldiers on this Rememberance Day

  4. Charlie says:

So, if I’m reading this correctly, atheists have no right to an opinion whatsoever? Okay, just checking. Glad I live in a theocracy.

    • ewwee says:

Frankly, I don’t think you are reading this correctly. I think you are one of those people who delight in taking offense whenever possible. On a final note: You just gave your opinion, because you have the freedom to do so.

    • RadicalX says:

You’re not reading it correctly, Charlie. You missed the implied “If you’re the praying type…”

But I’m pretty sure this comment is just flame bait, and as such I will issue no further response.

    • what says:

from one atheist to another…lighten up. you make us look bad.

      • JB says:

(To “what” in hopes that “charlie” is reading):
‘Cause you get it, I’m going to say: “Well, bless your heart.” And I’ll trust that you’ll know that my thanking you for your understanding and wishing you well in my way, does not infringe upon your rights to just take the good thoughts/feelings and think the “blessing” is hooey. See, I get it, too.
Charlie? You there? Y’ wanna hop on board the peace train, too? We’ll slow it down for ya’.

    • Bob says:

Odd – I didn’t see anywhere in there that tried to deny you the right to your own opinion. In fact, what I do see is two people dedicated to guaranteeing you that right. What you don’t have is the freedom from being offended – and as someone else has pointed out – you seem to be seeking out the opportunity to be offended.

And by the way, for that right that you are guaranteed – you’re welcome.

    • Swami says:

As a fellow atheist, I am very glad that someone is posting the atheist point of view to this picture of a dog with sentimental text on it.

By “glad” I mean of course “horribly embarrassed.” What is wrong with you? Take that sense of outrage and apply it where it would be more appropriate – which is to say, nearly anywhere else.

      • Zeli says:

I think the offence that was taken was to the “praying” bit.

Given that, say, the Catholic church says that animals don’t have souls and don’t go to heaven, etc, etc, surely it’s ironically insulting that a prayer should be said for an animal that is made to risk its life (not that it’s given a choice) to save humans.. and then the humans have the hide to PRAY for the animal of which it denies a soul.

Yes, as an athiest and a human I do take offence at that.

        • ewwee says:

Gee, not everyone who prays to God is Catholic, and no one here sent that dog into combat. Most praying people think it is a good idea to pray for those that don’t necessarily have control over their own circumstances. And, you can be offended all you want. I bet you are offended by everyone who doesn’t think just like you,

        • Zeli and Charlie are idiots says:

Try looking at a dictionary for once, you mouth-breather. Prayer isn’t exclusively a religious practice. It can also simply mean an earnest wish for a positive outcome. Quit trying to turn everything into a fight for/against religion.

    • Sara says:

Just what the heck are you reading? Because it could not be the above picture and caption. Sounds like you are just looking for something to b=tch about. Thanks for trying to ruin one of the best pics on the Veterans Day, but you FAILED.
God bless the soilders and their awesome googie comrades!!!!

      • naoyusimi says:

” . . . googie comrades”? Are they multicolored, with paws, big eyes, a tail, and find things for you?

      • winykittygirl says:

yes, i agree, this picture says it all on this day of all days… regardless of your beliefs, HOPE that the soldiers and googies are kept safe protecting our way of live..

(AMEN – sorry hadta throw that in there, stinker that i am)

        • SruffyKat says:

Not all Vets stand on two legs. To those who do not “pray”, have good thoughts for ALL our troops who fight for the safety, protection and well being of people they do not even know.

    • JB says:

Not even going to try to educate you about the difference between reference to God and prayer and the “separation of Church and State” since space here is limited — read a book and discover that for yourself.
But I will say that North Korea is, safe to say, open for your business. I’m sure they’d welcome you and you’d never have to hear of God or prayer ever again. You’d simply have to lick the boots of some crazy little megalomaniacal dude who thinks he’s God. Ooops… oh, well, it’s still another option.
To our service members: Thanks — God Bless and Keep You!

    • Carole says:

You can move anytime. I doubt you’ll be missed.

  5. Demelza says:

In DOG we trust – faster responses and greater loyalty. On this special day for armed forces everywhere – we’ll say a prayer for a safe tour and swift return.

  6. RadicalX says:

Don’t worry, buddy! We include you when we say ‘Our Soldiers’ and ‘Our Heroes’. :)

  7. Jane says:

I salute you, doggeh, and your hoomans too, on this Veterans Day!

    • Mor Cameron says:

Throughout the history of conflict animals have played an important part, whether it was the ship’s cat in Nelson’s time, a dog mascot on a Canadian warship in WWII, or a US bomb-sniffing dog in the Middle East. Our animal buddies have improved morale and helped keep our Service Personnel safe. They deserve a kind thought, and remembrance on this special day as much as their human counterparts.

  8. cw3stitch says:

Perhaps Charlie would be happier living somewhere else where he wouldn’t have the freedom to express his atheistic views. I may not agree with your opinion, but thanks to all our veterans you at least have the opportunity to express it.

  9. cw3stitch says:

Iz gud dat teh goggies haz hoomanz to protek dem and dey protek the hoomans too. Sta saef goggie.

  10. ... says:

I came for the lulz, not the patronising picturs.

    • Cottleston Pie says:

Then skip this one and move on the the lulz. No one held a gun to your head and made you look.

      • grandamjim says:

Well said. It’s just like changing the channel on the TV. You see something you don’t like, move on. And you don’t need to comment on it just because you don’t like it. MOVE ON!!! (Not the liberal MOVE ON either.)

    • fish eye no miko says:

It’s Veteran’s Day, …; I think it’s appropriate to save something like this today.

      • Zeli says:

“Veteran’s Day” (And I guessing you mean Veterans’ Day since there were most likely more than one of them….) (Oh, and notice that in the rest of the world it’s Rememberance Day. Over here, we remember more than just the ones holding the guns.)

Anyway, isn’t it appropriate to say what the poster said at any time they damn well please? I thought what you flag wavers were “fighting for”… or do i misunderstand the concept …. was “free speech”.

And yeah. No lulz to see here… move on ppl.

    • Carole says:

Don’t let the door hit you….

  11. Carole says:

Thank you to all of our brave soldiers, present and past, 2 legged and 4 legged.

    God bless.

  12. GoogieLover says:

    We pray for you everyday.

  13. bibi tejana says:

GOD BLESS YOU DOGGEH AND ALL THE SOLDIERS THAT ARE WHERE THEY ARE SO THAT WE CAN BE HERE!! GOD BLESS AND THANK YOU!!!!

  14. SilverTide says:

This doggie is not a german! Is a belgian doggie. x.x Do your research, kiddos. This is a Belgian Malinois.

  15. Bucky says:

as an atheist i say: god bless our human soldiers and our canine soldiers.
whoever is “up there” or “out there” or whatever, will sort it out.

thank you brave heroes, both 2 and 4 legged

    • Ziji says:

As a Buddhist, I agree. Against war or not, we’re always FOR our heroes, two and four legged. And we can take one short break from LOLz for a moment of gratitude. Thanks, Bucky.

  16. Loribme says:

Courage comes in many forms…including the four-legged furry kind. This dog may not understand what is really going on but he does understand humans are in danger. I have no doubt this canine soldier will do his very best to protect others. All soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines in harm’s way, two-legged AND four-legged, deserve our utmost respect. Good job to all of you in the service.

  17. TrinketsMom says:

Deities bless all those who serve, whether we believe in them or not.

  18. Tigerlily01 says:

Ok to atheists and believers alike, no matter what your opinion is about whats going on out there, Think, pray or what ever it is you do to what ever you are into to, Just don’t forget them. Soldiers are there because they believe in the right to free speech and don’t want it taken away. The dogs are there because no matter what, over all this time and in all hours darkest hours, they have often shared them with us and been at our sides and I thank what ever it is that people call God that they are there.
Maybe this will help you understand what I’m getting at.
from the heart of a dog lover no matter what your thoughts on the whole God thing are.

  19. Tigerlily01 says:

By the way I haven’t yet come across anything on any of these pages I didn’t like. There is a wonderful pool of wit and love on here for dogs, cats and even the celeb jabs are not harmful.
    I love this site.
Long live the kettehs and the goggies.

  20. gmoney says:

what is with this UNFUNNY inspirational garbage lately??? That dog is really saying: Hopez dey has noms in afgan’stan.

There was that so hard? This is LOLdogs, not Inspirational, unfunny, lame garbagedogs

    • Tigerlily01 says:

If u don’t like it move on. it’s just a tribute to dogs. how hard is that to understand on this of all days.

    • shaungrl says:

Yep. Just like you’re saying, “hopez dey has LOL’s on ICHH”. It’s his/your only thought. Riiiiiight.

    • Zeli says:

Hands (paws?) up for you gmoney.

This is NOT the place for chauvanistic flag waving… maybe the Cheezpeeps should start a site for the military molls… “GIJ(L)OLS” or something.

      • Cottleston Pie says:

This is the place for anything the site owners want to put here.

        Period.

Those who don’t like it are free to say so.

They’re also free to take all the criticism of those of us who disagree. That’s also called free speech.

    • J says:

      I agree completely.

I don’t totally disagree with the sentiment behind these types of captions, but I also don’t want to see them on this site that is supposed to give me a laugh, not some misguided “patriotic” finger-wagging.

      • Tigerlily01 says:

This is nothing to do with patriotism. Its to do with a thought for those who, once again are defending your right to talk in this way. With little regard or love for anything else but yourselves. Isn’t it nice to think that the world is not full of people like you or we would not have this great Cheezburger site to begin with.
Last time I put in anything nice for the dogs.
It seems to bring the trouble makers from out under their rocks.
I feel sad for you that you seem to want nothing more than to make people depressed. I hope your happy, you have succeed.

    • Carole says:

Well, it’s because of our soldiers and in a small part, the service dogs, that you can sit here freely and whine about what you don’t like about this FREE site.

      Move on, or zip it.

  21. angiesparkles says:

    you one brave goggie x

  22. PamLL says:

putting out to the universe: please keep safe all beings who may be in danger

  23. JB says:

Bless you to all the service dogs everywhere. You are strong, brave and true. May God keep you.

  24. Tigerlily01 says:

I love you people and ty for all your comments. Even you charlie.

  25. deadinfrance says:

Never gave a thought to googie in war-my prayers and good thoughts now go their way.

    • Casa says:

Yes yes! lots of doggies, an other critters too. Horsies, an’ dolphins, an.. um… I don’t think there are any kittys… but there are these mice that find land mines!

      • Tigerlily01 says:

I do believe there is a ketteh in war story some where.

        • Lee-Ann says:

Yup. Sandbag the dog and Hesco the cat, Britsh troops been fighting to get them brought home but our ass of a prime minister wont allow it! Cant find a good enough link but ya can google it. bittersweet story.

  26. little b'smom says:

This is such a beautiful picture and sentiment- I will pray today and keep on praying for our brave soldiers (both 2 and 4 legged ones) Blessings and peace to all!

  27. Multi-Facets says:

In Dog We Trust indeed. I don’t pray, but I will hope for the safety of the troops on both sides, and that all service dogs are outfitted with kevlar vests.

I’ll also hope they can come back soon.

  28. Kim H. says:

Some people think it’s silly or sentimental to thank an armed forces canine. The dog didn’t make a conscious decision to be brave and fight for his country, after all. He’s just doing what dogs do, and we’ve found a way to get some use of his natural instincts. He’s another tool for us. You don’t thank a screwdriver for being a screwdriver, why thank a dog for being a dog?

If you are among those who think that way, well…that’s fine. But do me a favor, before you write me off as being overly sentimental.

Go find one of the soldiers who’s served with a military working dog, and you tell THEM that those dogs don’t deserve our thanks. You go tell the 51st Security Forces that the memorial service they held for a fallen canine comrade was “silly”.

And let me know when and where you’re gonna have that little chat, ’cause I wanna see it.

  29. tired girl says:

OMG!!!! That’s SSD Ryky! SSD = Specialized Search Dog. She is stationed at Fort Myer, VA and is currently deployed. She will be returning back to Ft Myer in the next month or two. I can’t wait to see her and I can’t wait to show this to her handler! These dogs save on average 6-8 lives each. So, be sure to keep them in your thoughts. They selflessly serve their country. HOOAH!!!!

    • bucky says:

wow!! now you really made me cry. i hope she gets a heroes welcome with a giant steak!!!

    • ewwee says:

Wow!! Thanks for letting us know. Its always nice to make this personal. I hope that beautiful dog comes home soon. Along with her people.

    • cleo says:

Thank you for your post. Made me cry a little. Could you give SSD Ryky a pat for me and thank her handler. I pray every day for all the brave souls that serve our country all over the world. That includes all the service dogs. HOOAH!!!!!!

    • Lee-Ann says:

Aww shes a beauty! I hope she has a safe trip home! Thank you for giving us some info on her x

  30. debbie says:

God made em, and God Bless em!!

  31. Jo says:

I respect and admire our fighters and veterans, but I have to say I am totally humbled by their animal companions who don’t choose or understand the reasons behind their jobs and tasks, but still go above and beyond, and often show more humanity than some humans I could name!

This picture brought tears to my eyes! :D

As a pagan athiest, I still pray; not to a god, but to the spirit of the whole world, and my prayers/meditations/spells are very firmly aimed at all the wonderful beings so generously serving!!!

(oh, and don’t forget the other purpose of today; Armistice day, celebrating the start of Peace after WW1!!!!)

    • Tigerlily01 says:

Jo Thats something quite a few people don’t think about (including me).
The fact that they don’t ask why they just do.
Maybe they don’t understad enough to ask why but that doesn’t mean the don’t need our thoughts.

  32. Nana says:

Warms my heart that there are WAY more good hearts here than thoughtless trolls. I join you in best thoughts for ALL who protect us. May we serve them as well as they serve us.

  33. Carolyn says:

This warmed my heart. It’s now on my blog. Thank you for the wonderful post.

  34. Alex says:

This is one of the most deeply saddening things I’ve seen in a long time. Poor animal, humans don’t get conscripted anymore – why should dogs?

    • Jessi says:

I’m going to have to disagree with you on this one. Saying that dogs shouldn’t be conscripted goes against the very nature of Canis familiaris. The domesticated dog has been bred for thousands of years to not only be our companion, but also to work for us. A dog without a job to do, whether it’s something as simple fetching or as complex as being a War Dog, very quickly becomes unstable.

If you’ve ever met what a friend of mine refers to as ‘Armpit Piranhas’ (most often a Chihuahua or a Pomeranian), then you’ll known what I’m talking about. These are dogs that have had their ‘jobs’ taken away from them, and look what they’ve become.

Anytime we put a dog to work in a particular field, whether that be looking for vermin, drugs, bombs or our enemies (or even just making sure that the sheep go where they’re supposed to go or that their blind master gets home safely), we’re ‘conscripting’ them.

  35. Remo says:

This picture makes me sad– too often, no one does think of the poor dogs who serve in the armed forces. They deserve our love and respect, and yes, our PRAYERS. In reference to the earlier argument, I really don’t understand how anyone can take offense to that? All religions have some version of prayer. As for the atheists…no one is out to get you, or offend you. Honestly, some of you are as bad as fundamentalist Christians sometimes, taking offense to everything and insisting that your way is the only right way. But that is just my personal opinion, and I’m sure it’s not ever atheist.

Oh, and having lived with dogs my whole life, I think the definitely deserve our prayers, because there is no doubt in my mind that they have a soul. Anyone who has loved a dog will probably agree with me.

That said– I will remember the puppies that work with our soldiers :-)

    • darlean says:

You are absolutly right! I am 11 and I love dogs, cat and all animals. The definataly deserve at least that. I wish I could do more right now.
What you said is honorable. And I agree. Best of luck to you.

      Darlean

    • Riley says:

Well said Remo, and I couldn’t agree more. Extremism, in any shape or form, is rarely the right path. But that’s just my opinion.

    • Tigerlily01 says:

I understand what ur saying Remo. I am a christian but I wouldn’t ever deride you for what ever you choose to believe in are not as is this case.
it matters not but was does matter is the thanks we can give to those who defend our right to believe or not to believe, to say what we want even if it isn’t what you would agree with.
In what ever way you choose show them you care.
From an avid animal lover. (but dogs especially ;-) ).

  36. desdemona says:

I think that we forget that if it wasn’t for some of these dogs that some of the soldiers wouldn’t make it home at all. Yes it wasn’t the dogs choice but if God didn’t want to have them to have the ability to help society then he wouldn’t have given them such intellagence.

  37. desdemona says:

Oh yes, also for those who have an issue with this picture, the save the lives of those who fight for your rights to say what you want just think about that

  38. Marianne says:

To Lee- Ann regarding Sandbag the dog and Hesco the cat … I was Googling about them and came across this good news – in case you hadn’t heard it!! The story was updated on October 5th.
    Here’s the link: http://www.swhp.co.uk/sandbag-hesco
    I’m so delighted!!!

  39. darlean says:

I also agree with desdemona. It is a dificult topic. both sides have resonable arguments. though it really is not fair to send dogs out to save us. They do not have a choice.
    But, whatever! I don’t have a say.

    • Jessi says:

That’s just like saying it’s not fair to send a Dachsie sown a hole to kill a badger, or to make Border Collies herd day in and day out or to make hounds track over long distances. These are the tasks we’ve assigned these animals. They may not get a say in it, but I guarantee you, the dogs who do this sort of work love it. If they didn’t, then they wouldn’t have been put into the program in the first place.

  40. Robin says:

What strikes me as odd is the implied notion that without soldiers, we (well, Americans) wouldn’t have freedom of speech.

I’m not saying that’s not true, but everyone seems to take that point for granted.

  41. macy says:

i believe that there is nothing to be said about this picture but respect.
all of you losers out there who sit there and complain about the war in iraq and how the soliders are nothing but people. SHAME ON YOU! THEY ARE THE REASON YOU ARE STILL ALIVE TODAY AND HAVE THE FREEDOM TO DO WHAT YOU WANT!! being in the army and out in the middle-east fighting for your country i think is the hardest thing in he world. everyday soliders are wondering if they will ever see there loved ones again. i know 5 people who were out in iraq for 6 months and they said “its scary to know if your putting your foot in the right place, because if its the wrong place.. your gone.” and this dog in the picture i have respect for too.

so again. all of you inconsiderate low life losers out there can be quiet. and think for a minute of what your saying.

and i hope this dog and the soliders behind him are safe.
