That behavior is actually extremely dangerous for the baby. The dog is indicating its dominance and could very well opt to follow up with aggressive behavior if it feels challenged in some way.

Second, while a paw/led over a person can be dominance, many breeds, bullies in particular, paw in play, and for all we know, the picture could have been posed. I can put any of my GSDs in a down stay and prop their foot over something.
I saw the guy who took the original on a Neo board – this shot is indeed posed.

Adorable and cute but on the other hand: very scary. I’m a dog person but I would never allow this.
As the owner of 3 mastiffs: Dogtrainer, that dog is not indicating his dominance. He’s protecting his person. If any size person sits beside him, he will put his front paw over them for protection. These are wonderful dogs. Maestro, that dog spent the rest of his life following that child around. If the dog has passed, the child is devastated.
