Awsome picture, and yes, I know that a bulldog is like, the marine’s lil mascot… but damn they need a new one. Bulldogs are such a genetic grab back of health problems there is no way they could actualy fight like “devil dogs.”
bulldogs are breed to fight against big bulls, thats why they got the name. their skin has much wrinkles so that if they get bitten or the bull has them with his horns it does not as much damage like as if they got a normal skin. So they dont have to give up so fast, normal skin could even ripping!
their nose is breed so short to give them the ability to breath even if they bite in a large bull, a normal nose would be blocked by the flesh/skin and by the blood of the bull. They dont have to bite and bite again and again, they can keep their teeth into the flesh of the bull.
Bulldogs are not breed to be pet dogs, they are breed to fight and kill large bulls.
They got health problems but just because they arent breed to live on the couch, they are breed to fight and kill, and in a fight against a bull they are much more effective than most other races.
Im sorry for my bad english, im from germany.
btw:
Grate Danes killed much people in the first world war, but they got health problems too, most of the killers got health problems, and thats because most of them are breed to fight, what can mean that they maybe fight just one single fight, thats all they was supposed to live for, and so they dont live so long.
(again sorry for my english!)
Bulldogs have not been bred for fighting since the early 1800s. Back then they were ferocious fighters but not anymore. They have been bred to be companion dogs ever since and that is what the breed standard call for– an easygoing disposition. I have 3 and they are all totally sweethearts that love everyone. And yes, they’re lazy too!
So, true. I’ve got 2 and they’re the biggest couch potatoes in the world! They run maybe fifteen feet and they’re exhausted, LOL. And they wouldn’t know how to be ferocious if their lives depended on it. They’d just great big luv bugs.
Well, that’s just all wrong. … the English Bulldog of today has been bred down to accentuate the wrinkles, short nose, the bow legs, the huge head. That’s not theri original look.
The orginal bulldogs were bred to fight, protect, etc. but were not the health problems of today. Look up the American Bulldog, and the Olde English Bulldog (which is an attempt to recreate the “true” identity of the EB). There you’ll see the original forms, or at least a close approximation. The very first Marines EB, Mr. Jiggs, is much more of an OEB looking dog.
This is not a knock against EB’s, they are what they are, and I love them for it.
My future husband is a Marine who is currently deployed! I know he will love it too if he hasn’t seen it yet. We always love the few military inspired ones thrown in.
Just that the Marines tend to be some of the first into battle against some of the worst odds… I’ve got relatives in the Marines, and I’m proud of them, but I don’t envy them their jobs. All I had to deal with was large explosives in the Air Force.
Um, yeah. The comment seems to mean what it says; a slighty sarcastic take on the picture itself… and criticism is allowed in the U.S.; though judging by your name, your comment doesn’t surprise me a bit. Nor will your reply to me, I’m sure.
Oh, before you ask, I’m very proud of our Marines; I’ve several relatives that are USMC. I’m a veteran myself, though not a Marine. That doesn’t make them (or me!) perfect, however.
an over reaction…it happens to everyone at times and that’s why I tried to lighten the tension with my comment considering Galena said “The few, the proud…” I don’t see how it could really be considered an insult to the marines…bulldogs maybe… so, since it doesn’t look like it was criticism then Galena has no worries about the going to hell comment since it only applies IF it was criticizing so in the end it all works out see
Regardless of mascot or anything else, leatherneck I salute you and thank you from the bottom of my heart! May you always be blessed. Our country is lucky to have you as protector.
GO MARINE. SEMPER FI.
To you I bestow upon you (in spirit) the best woman, the finest children, the honorable parents, the best wine, beer, and whiskey, the hottest car, the sleekest boat, the most comforting home, the tastiest steak, the sweetest corn, the most acurate gun, and the worthiest fellow marines.
My father was at the Omaha Beach landing in 1944; so I grew up respecting the military. I’ve also had the pleasure of being owned by a bulldog(sweet dogs, btw!).
Thoughts & prayers go to our military guys & gals… SALUTE!
NAS Whidbey used to have a small Marine command and they had a bulldog…he even had a dress uniform!
They aren’t all lumps…some are quite active. But they don’t move so fast. Mine both lumbered along bulldog speed…but I loved walking them.
As for aggressive or not…it’s all in how they are raised. ANY dog can be made aggressive.
As for whether or not the breed is an appropriate mascot for the US Marines…hmmm…yeah, I still think they are – partly tradition, partly because in spite of their gentle demeanor, they can be fiercely protective of their family (pack)…I’ve seen it.
Kinda like those tough Marines every Christmas…Toys for Tots is a great program and one that I have always supported.
my boyfriend and all four of my brothers are marines, and my dad, grandpa and three uncles are vets of the marine corps. this made me tear up, and so did all the comments defending the marines and showing love. thank you all.
Awesome LOL! Go get ‘em DevilDogs!
He don’t need no stinking LST!

Awesome! My son is a Marine and will love this!
My future husband is a Marine who is currently deployed! I know he will love it too if he hasn’t seen it yet. We always love the few military inspired ones thrown in.
My son is a Marine too! He just got back from a 7 month tour in Iraq a couple of months ago. He is in Camp Pendleton now. What about your son?
The fodder, the cannon kibble.
; P
What exactly does this mean?
Just that the Marines tend to be some of the first into battle against some of the worst odds… I’ve got relatives in the Marines, and I’m proud of them, but I don’t envy them their jobs. All I had to deal with was large explosives in the Air Force.
HOOHAH!!
…I think that’s what a Marine’s battle cry is…
Actually, that’s Army. Marines traditionally use Oorah!
Very good, Kai.
OORAH!!!
ohhrah
Devil Dogs!
Excellent!
Solid gold.
Semper Fi!
always faithful
I have to admit, to this day I’ve never seen a picture of an active bulldog. Apparently there are some or it’s all photoshopped. ;OP
Actually they are very active and lively if they arent trapped in a house all the time.
You don’t know how relieved I am to hear that! :O)
You have no idea just how “active” Bullies can be! Here’s one that is absolutely maniacal in his activeness!

And here is Bubba in action:

I’m such a sap.. that almost made my eyes leak..
The few, the proud… and a disgruntled bulldog running through water.
What is this comment supposed to mean? If you’re criticizing the US Marines, then you can go to hell.
ya and.. and… if you’re critizing bull dogs… ditto STN
*sorry, I just had to giglolz*
Word! There best not be any criticism of bulldogs. Ever. If you don’t like them, say nothing.
Just for the record, I don’t think it was a criticism. I think it was just a comment on the photo. The dog in the pic does look a trifle grumpy.
Um, yeah. The comment seems to mean what it says; a slighty sarcastic take on the picture itself… and criticism is allowed in the U.S.; though judging by your name, your comment doesn’t surprise me a bit. Nor will your reply to me, I’m sure.

Sweet! Lack of hell-ness makes it a good day.
Good tension-lightening, too.
Cheers!
…and this was the last thing the burglar saw.
That noise you heard is the insurgents screaming like little nancy boys and peeing themselves.
Pictures of the new girl, Bella here.
Semper, former marine here, but I agree.. need a new mascot.. German Sheperds have been serving along side us for decades now..
Is he storming the shores of Tripoli?
Regardless of mascot or anything else, leatherneck I salute you and thank you from the bottom of my heart! May you always be blessed. Our country is lucky to have you as protector.
