  6. Abbie says:

This isn’t funny. Is it supposed to be touching or something? It’s not even that.

    • IpAqI says:

      Oh, hush.

      Cat-lover.

      • ophelia says:

Whoa, whoa, let’s not call names; some of us love us some dogs AND cats ;)

(I will point out to Abbie that the subtitle of the site is “Loldogs, Dogs ‘n’ Puppy Dog Pictures” — not “The All-laughing, All-Hilarious Puppy Dog Power Hour”. It’s for touching as well as funny.)

I am a big fan of adoption. I grew up on a farm, and my family bought ONE dog all my life–a pedigreed Bluetick hound who, once her hunting/show days were over, was our beloved pet and Stranger Alarm until she passed away of old age. The remainder of our dogs were always strays that wandered in, or dogs that other people didn’t want – a Newf that chased horses because he was bored (he wasn’t bored at our place, go figure), a German Shepherd whose owner’s wife wouldn’t let him take the dog to the new house, a terrier/chihuahua cross who needed to lose 20 lbs to save his life. I’m pretty sure I’ve told the story of the German Shepherd pup my dad stole in order to save him from an horrifically abusive life (who lived his unfortunately foreshortened life in happiness on the farm – the early abuse, the vet thinks, took so much out of him, he only lived to be 10).

I for one am happy to see slightly gushy pictures and comments like this, because it reminds me of pets past and present. Makes me weepy at the office, but still makes me happy ;)

        • Gah says:

Surely it’s the ‘lol’ in ‘loldogs’ which suggests they’re supposed to be funny.

          • ophelia says:

But the website is “I Has A Hotdog: Loldogs, DOGS ‘N’ PUPPY DOG PICTURES” (emphasis mine), indicating that it’s not 100% LOLdogs.

The thing is, these pictures get pushed to the front page when enough people vote for them. Which means enough people who read this site on a more or less regular basis actually WANT this sort of picture up on the front page. You can always vote against it yourself.

            • Abbie says:

I didn’t say every picture on here was supposed to be funny. I merely said that this one isn’t. I even suggested an alternative for the intention of the picture, although as I said, it also fails in that regard.
Remember, when you ASSUME, you make an ASS out of S and ME. But mostly just U. :D

              • Abbie says:

Err fail. ASS out of U and ME.

              • Xaqtly says:

It was touching to me. That picture was taken the day I brought him home. Nobody had any backstory on him, but he was given up to a shelter and rescued before he was euthanized. He was so happy to be with us that he fell asleep in our arms. If you don’t find that touching, then I feel sorry for you.

                • Abbie says:

Are you sure you don’t mean you feel superior to me?

Anyway, of course it would be touching to you. It’s your dog. But people adopt dogs every day. It’s nothing special unless you’re the adopter. Congrats on your new friend though.

                  • Xaqtly says:

I’m sorry you’re unable to empathize. However, you also said it fails at being touching, which is obviously not the case given its 5 hot dog rating. The problem here is you, not my picture or my caption, or the sentiment it portrays. It’s too bad you can’t just enjoy it like everybody else.

                    • quite says:

Um. It’s one more dog who doesn’t end up in the city incinerator — today — let’s all hope that adopted dogs don’t get thrown away down the line.

                      How’s THAT for touching.

                    • JJ Fad says:

It’s a a lovely story, and I’m sure your friend and companion is happy as a clam in your loving home.

Now… please stop feeding the troll. No good ever comes from taking in stray assholes. ;-)

                      • Abbie says:

There are no problems here. You like your caption, I don’t, and we’re both entitled to our opinions. I’m sorry if you’re offended that not everyone likes it.

JJ Fad, I’m sure you’re aware that what I’ve said here is far from trolling. No need for name calling.

                        • An says:

What in the world is there not to like about the caption “Adoption is its own reward?” What’s not to like about saving a life? What’s not to like about a dog getting a second chance in life? What’s not to like about the reward it brings to his human companions? I just don’t understand why you feel the need to throw mud at a beautiful sentiment by stating it’s not funny or even touching. And to then come back and say “I’m sorry you’re offended” is disingenuous at best. The phrasing of your initial comment made your intentions quite clear.

                • keshet says:

Your baby has such a sweet face!
I am very happy for you both.

                • forthelost says:

That is touching. Rescue goggies are always so happy for new homes.

                • Elaine says:

I have followed your stories about Rex and am happy for you both. It is sad that some people can’t just let others be happy. Anyone who posts a comment as anonymous is someone you should ignore any way. Enjoy Rex and keep posting. I loved the photo by the way.

                • BuddysMommy says:

I think it’s wonderful that you adopted such a wonderful, loving pet. We also adopted our dog from a shelter where he would have been euthanized, and it’s hands-down the best decision we’ve ever made. He knows we saved him, and he shows us his gratitude daily with unconditional love.

  7. ERNesbitt says:

Adopted pets are like pringles… Once you have one, you’ll end up with seven or eight by the time you’re done.

    • Huskymum says:

I have a friend, who has around 18 Husky’s (which is what the dog in the pic is) – most of whom are rescues/adoptions. I couldn’t say no either, my Husky is adopted

  8. Anonymous says:

this isnt funny. this is stupid. i dont come here for disney-esque “adopt dont buy” horsecrap to be shoved in my face. go feel warm and fuzzy somewhere else PETA. screw shelter animals. ill never adopt, i would rather know the health issues (or rather, the lack thereof) and behavior issues (or rather, lack thereof lol) i can expect in my purebred dog.

    • ophelia says:

That’s cool, but there’s no reason for you to come here and be abusive. You don’t like it, you have a few options: the “Home” button, which will likely take you to the MSN webpage; the “back” button, which will take you back to the main I Has A Hotdog site; or even type something into your Google search bar (or just go to Google) to find something more to your liking. It takes so much more effort for you to make a comment than it is for you just to go away and look at something that does in fact make you happy.

    • keshet says:

I hope you are adopting from reputable breeders after visiting and seeing the parents and the puppies. Just because they’re purebred doesn’t make them any healthier, if fact it’s often the opposite. I have nothing against pure bred dogs or the people who want them. I just hope that they, and you, are not contributing to the puppy mill trade.
BTW the sentiment being expressed here is more ASPCA and not PeTA. PeTA seems more inclined to euthanize in order to “save the animal”.

    • Lucy says:

You are a true animal lover. Enjoy your deleterious genes.

  9. Kwithie says:

heerbouts we lubs AWL goggies, dopted, pyur bred, whutebbers, an we lubs peepz dat lubs goggies — evin teh pinyinated krankeh wunz.

  10. AdoptedDogMom says:

My adopted Lab is snoring at my feet — he’s made himself a permanent part of the family in only a few short weeks. We’re fairly sure he’s purebred, and he came to us with impeccable house manners and a heart overflowing with love. We’re still working on the leash manners, but we wouldn’t give him up for all the world.

  11. Oh, bother says:

Couple points: the internet is a very big place where one can go anywhere to see the sort of sites he likes.
Second: my rescued corgi is at my feet. She is a retired show dog and breeder bitch. I have all her medical records and a list of her litters and how many of what sex and color of pups she had. I know an amazing amount about the health of her line. That doesn’t make her any less of a rescue. The breeder “didn’t have room” for a bitch past her productive years. We went to the Reliant dog show some months later and the breeder couldn’t look at her without crying. She knows what she gave up because she “didn’t have room.” How much room do you need in outdoor pens the dogs stay in year-round? Yep, she’s a rescue. Three years later, she’s almost over her fear of thunder.

  12. C and Shelby says:

Awww!!! I knowz that dog…he bee famous! He be happy boy.

(took me over almost 18 months to see this happen with my red and white rescue girl..super speshul, indeed, well worth the hard work and patience)

  13. CottlestonPie says:

Damn shame that some people can’t enjoy the pictures without making a bunch of lameass criticisms.

    • CottlestonPie says:

I might have known when I saw that the thread had 25 comments that it was mostly people b*tching.

  14. Bainwen says:

    Blissful goggie is blissful.

Cranky hyoomins can STFU and go to other websites.

  15. Jinny says:

Heh… we should start an ‘adopt the troll’ initiative. Maybe if all the stray trolls in the world had loving homes, their manners would improve.

  16. Beth says:

I think this is a wonderful picture! I also adopted my husky from a rescue and it is the best thing I have ever done.

  17. S says:

    Anonymous says:
June 10, 2009 at 7:58 pm is a terribly thoughtless person. How can you say “screw shelter dogs?” Have you ever heard of hybrid vigor? I love all dogs, but you… not so much. Maybe you need a pedigree, but how dare you discourage others who want to help others in need. Where’s the compassion?

  18. Cowdogwah says:

Wow, can’t believe comments ran up so high on this one–when I saw this picture, I recognized the look on the dog’s face–I’ve seen it on my own animals. Thank you for adopting this animal, for taking a great photo, and for posting. I enjoyed looking at it. Good luck to you and your dog.

    • Xaqtly says:

Thanks. He’s sleeping on the floor next to me right now, and he’s awesome. People stop me on walks all the time to pet him and he has the sweetest disposition. I may have rescued him, but trust me, he rescued me too.

  19. Multi-Facets says:

I wonder if the people who split hairs on “rescue” would be so quick to say “That doesn’t count as adoption/rescue” about a human kid.

  20. Wolvenmoon says:

So silly in a stupid way! Campaigning on a funny dog pictures site about adoption. Some people on this site should never own a dog, the ones that should have a dog, and browse this site, do.

We have 4. 3 are shelter dogs, 1 is a service dog candidate that developed seizures, 1 a working service dog, 1 a pet. Then we have 1 border collie from a very responsible breeder that does very few litters.

A dog as high end as him from a pound is a bad idea.

  21. Kathi says:

it is great you adopted and i agree it has its own rewards – good for you for being an advocate – some people have nothing better to do but criticize

  22. Aaron says:

Mai goggie wuz a mistreated, malnourished stray that mai ant n unkle fownd.
