I’ll keep this nice, but as the owner of one of “those attack dogs” that statement is ignorant. You need to do some research before painting ALL Dobes with that bigoted broad brush. The top biters in America include “nice doggie” breeds like labs and lab crosses. Small breeds do biting, too. The damage just has a small mark.
My rescue Dobe, Gunther now ten, beaten and abused by his BYBreeders, gives kisses and smiles for my great-nieces and nephew. Do I ever leave them alone together-no, but I would never leave a child alone with a dog-ANY DOG. I do not ever want to be sitting at the ER saying “he’s never done that before”. Being stupid has a high price.

shaungrl: good soapboxing. Note to general public: there are very, very few actual trained ‘attack’ dogs out there. What there is a lot of is dogs of any size and breed who have been grotesquely abused and are now, quite understandably, likely to bite first and ask questions later. The dog across the street from me was badly abused before coming to his current good owners. I’ve been making friends with him slowly and quietly, and inside that big black dog is a complete sucky baby. But I’m still very careful to talk to him only through his fence. And if I raise my hand above his head to pat him he flinches so hard he winds up 3 feet away from me. I adopted a rescue cat once so badly abused that despite gentle and respecting-her-boundaries care, it was two years before she’d let me pet her. She had marks around her neck from I-don’t-want-to-know-what all her life, and had lost half an ear to frostbite. Animal abusers: there’s a very special place in Hell for you. And that includes tail-dockers and ear-croppers and de-clawers. These procedures are painful and totally unnecessary. De-clawers: put wide clear packing tape on your furniture where the cat scratches. They will transfer to the post you have provided for them, and leave the furniture alone.
I was raised with dobies and I am still here. lol. I LOVE the breed and hope to own another one someday!!!!!
