  2. Cowdogwah says:

  3. Nicole says:

Thirded–that looks like a siamese twin dog?

  4. Ibbits says:

“Until there are none, rescue enough to fit in your whooooooole lap”

  5. zippycat says:

No, is two goggies. One is curleded up in nice hooman’s lap, other goggie is layin on hims back on top of first goggie, stretched out across man’s arm. I thot it wus 2 heded goggie at first!

  6. linda rooda says:

There are two black goggies in the picture. Bless them.

  7. linda rooda says:

    Bless the two goggies!!!

  8. antisean says:

bless anyone who adopts from a shelter, rather than buying animals from breeders who only make animal overpopulation and euthanasia rates worse!

    • caghs says:

      Amen to that!

Of my six, four are shelter adoptees, one is a rescue (so malnourished when I adopted him that he could barely walk … now a happy, fat ginger tom), and one was from some lady that had too many, and her husband put his foot down.

Grew up around shelter cats and dogs, and they make the best dogs. It’s like they know you gave them another chance, and they’re grateful.

There’s enough animals without deliberately breeding more for profit!

    • Multi-Facets says:

In defense of some breeders, the respectable ones really are interested in improving their favored breeds. My family purchased two sisters from a breeder in the Nineties, and while one has passed on, the other is damn healthy and still spry as a pup. Absolutely no back problems whatsoever, and she’s a Dachshund, so that’s a minor miracle.

      • caghs says:

There are those breeders, it’s true … the sad fact is that most are in it for the money, however, with no thought to the existing over-population.

Attempting to breed out problems is one thing; breeding to make money is another thing entirely.

I tend to favour crosses, myself. I find that the strengths in one breed help to overcome the weaknesses in another. Not as a rule, but as a general observation.

  9. Mackey Mouse says:

    >sniffs< we needs more hoominz to adops goggies nd kittehs after dey no longer yung n kyoot.

  10. TwinkiesMum says:

    Don’t shop, adopt!

No donations, please, its just the only place where Annie’s story is summarized. Annie’s abuser has a court date on May 6. Keep her in your thoughts.

  11. puppatoons says:

And yet, people will still keep buying from stores.

    • Villy says:

Ugh. My boyfriend does not understand my convictions, and why I absolutely REFUSE to work at or buy from a pet store.

But then, when he got his dog, he bought him from a breeder *before we met.*

When I got my kitty, she’d dumped on a pet shop doorstep in a box with her brothers and sisters, and the girl who found them was trying to find homes.

We are from different worlds, apparently.

      • caghs says:

People that dump animals make me SO MAD!!!

You don’t want your cat to have kittens? Uh, there’s a simple operation for that. GRR!!!

Good on you for taking one in :)

      • Casa says:

Umm… if you don’t buy from a pet store… where the heck are you getting the food, and toys for your critters? o_0
        .
Unless you are just saying you don’t buy animals… otherwise I’m totaly not following your logic.

        • CottlestonPie says:

Don’t buy pets from pet stores. That’s what she means. (Unless it’s a place like PetSmart, where they are rescues they’re trying to home.)

But buy all the toys and treats and stuff from anyone you want to!

        • Dina says:

Some pet supply stores don’t actually sell pets, just supplies.

  12. D.R. says:

I adoptid mah goggie when she was 6. She nao gonna b elebenty. :) Yay for shelters an reskoos! Yay!

    • caghs says:

Chiska was one when we took her in, in 1992. Yep, she’s still running the house ;) Recent vet check said she was tip-top except for a touch of arthritis.

She was a shelter adoptee, and I wouldn’t be without her :)

      • BRMBug says:

:o What kind of good puppy-dawg is she?

        • caghs says:

My bad, should have specified … she’s a cat. You can see her by clicking my name. This photo was taken roughly three months ago :)

I do have two dogs, both RSPCA adoptees … but they’re both still in their prime. Baby is just getting past the puppy stage (2.5 years old). I got her a year ago, she had been abandoned in a house with six pups, and lived like that for six weeks, with the RSPCA climbing in through the window daily to feed her, because the stupid laws forbade them to remove her from the property inside of that six weeks.

She seems none the worse for wear though, and loves people and dogs and cats and anything else that wanders near ;)

          • caghs says:

The average life span of pets in my family has been 16 years, and all but a few have been shelter adoptions.

Rani was one of the exceptions; she was a German Shepherd from a breeder. Mum adopted her because they were going to euthanise her because she was blind. Mum got her two years before I was born, and she had to be put to sleep because of cancer when I was 15. That means she lived for roughly 17 years :)

    • Sylmenya says:

My baby was about 7 when I adopted him…he’s the best 10.5-year-old doggie I ever met. He’s got a bit of arthritis, but I can see every day how grateful he is that he finally after all those years found a place he can stay forever. I’m just sad that it took 7 years for him to find his home.

  13. GN says:

I’m with you! I have 2 rescue cats and will be rescuing at least one dog soon. They are the best.

  14. Green Is Good says:

My respect to the volunteer in the photo. Those two dogs are being comforted by somebody that loves dogs.

    • caghs says:

And when they find their forever homes, they’ll be that much better adjusted because this kind man took the time to cuddle them :)

  15. aimee says:

i dont get it, wheres the top dog’s face? im very confused

    but very cute anyway!

  16. Kellen Jones says:

Okay so that’s me in the pic but I didn’t post it, so who did?

  17. EDA says:

I think the dog is sticking his nose into the dude’s elbow. lol

  18. Pooksie says:

    AGREED!

My service dog was a shelter dog. No temperament issues or anything. Perfect angel. Endless source of joy to my life. Out of all things I regret in my life, getting him will never be one of them.

  19. Kim Hunter says:

We rescued our amazing Husky Tundra http://kimhunter.ca/photos/husky_dog_portrait_photo_th.jpg from a rescue One year ago this month! Many months of research and Petfinder.com is the only way to go. YAY RESCUES!

    • Casa says:

Huskies end up in rescues all the time because of their…um.. colorful persionalities. Some people just can’t deal with them, others, like me, love it!
      .
There is your perfect pet out there, they might be a little weird but then again, you might be too. ^^

    • caghs says:

“Many months of research and Petfinder.com is the only way to go.”

Not true. The RSPCA and other shelters are also a great place to find pets, they are all critters that need a second chance, and many of these aren’t on Petfinder.

But I agree with the general sentiment :)

  20. Casa says:

I have a neurotic older kitty that I rescued. She had been dumped at the vets office I worked for because of her… isues. Any thing she finds intresting she pees on. There isn’t any thing physical wrong with her she is just odd! I’ve got a farm and she loves being an outside kitty. Follows me around when I do chorse. She sleeps in a tree at night for some reasion, even though she can come into the garage or barn if she wanted to.
    .
This crazy old cat is the most “helpful” of my pets. If your out working on the car, a lawn mower or doing yard work she is right in the middle of it mimicing whatever it is you are doing!

    • redbead says:

My best friend was 8-9 yo (vet’s best guess) when he came to live with us 4 years ago. He had been thrown over an 8′ fence at a local shelter along with another dog who had been adopted quickly. My old black boy had calluses all the way around his scrawny neck from a too tight rope/collar, and we suspect that he was used as a bait dog for dog fighting because of his attitude toward other dogs now, and because he has a number of odd scars. He’s so happy now and my dog-reluctant husband is reluctant no more. We thank God every day for Fred and I like to think that he thanks Dog for us. I love him so much and pray he has many more happy years.

  22. SmileyBat says:

anyone else notice the guy is in the Navy?

  23. Michelle says:

Why breed or buy when shelter animals die? Not meaning to offend any purebred animal lovers out there – but responsible pet owners spay and neuter. The statistics and the reality show that there are just too many animals out there now – why make more? My service animal was actually a rescue! Truly great animals can come from shelters.

    • PeppaMama says:

Trying to explain to my kids, ages 9 and 7 about animal shelters and pounds is heart-wrenching. They don’t understand just how many homeless pets there are out there! SPAY AND NEUTER the pets, folks…if you can pay for dog/cat food, you can afford the surgery.

  24. David says:

Both of my recues and our fosters eat holistic home made meals. Absolutely no Chinese fillers added. What is REALLY in the big name brand dog foods? If they poison their own people, why would they care about our pets?

  25. MM3 EspersenSmith says:

That is also a united states sailor that i a standard issue pt sweatshirt Hooyah Navy

  26. PeppaMama says:

Ai did ‘dopt wun and he gives me lots of lubs and likks! Border collie mix, just got him Tuesday. Mai hoomin kidz and I haz a happee!!

  27. me says:

thats not a labrador retriever, why is it under lab? it has white on it! its a disqualification in the AKC! one solid color ppls!!!

  28. kitteh says:

Problem with adopting instead of buying from a breeder : You can’t get a purebred. Sorry, but I like purebred huskies and siamese kittens. And they’re automatically fixed… and I want to breed NOT to make money, but just cause I love animals

  29. Mandy says:

I rescued a Pitbull and he is such a sweetie and so darn cute. He is a genuine lapdog who thinks everyone is his best friend. Even my neighbors cat. They actually lay in the yard together. I know the other dogs laugh at him for sleepin wif kitteh.
