I adopted an abandoned dog just last Friday. She was dumped on the freeway with one female puppy. Fortunately, the rescuing family kept the puppy but they already had another adult dog and didn’t think they could manage three.
My wonderful previous dog (of 13 years) died of bone cancer just three weeks ago. She, too, was a rescue.
Please, please, please people. Do all that you can to encourage adoptions of rescued dogs. Vast numbers are euthanized every day. It’s tragic.
My dog is 13 too, I hope to have another year. With luck a little more. She is feeling pretty good right now. And when she has to leave us, my husband thinks we will not have a dog for a while so we can travel on the spur of the moment. Yeah, right. Me w/o dogs!!! Any bets on how long that will last?
Maybe an entire hour. I had a cat die once, my husband accidentally ran over it. After that he said he would never own another cat, it hurt too much. We went for a drive and he swore never again. While we were driving around we stopped at the pound and got a new cat. His excuse was we already had cat food and a dish and everything so we should have a cat.
Later we had 3 cats and one disappeared so after a month or so he asked me to get him a replacement cat. Then a month later asked me to get him a spare cat so if another disappeared we would still have our 3 cats. Then later he said we needed a kitten because the spare cat didn’t have a playmate his age. So when I left him he had two regular cats, replacement cat, spare cat and playmate for spare cat.
Oh thats hilarious!!! lolz!! My fiance draws the line at 3 cats, i wish he was more like your husband! He pretends he doesnt like my cats but sometimesi catch him doing a baby voice with em and being all sweet and loving with them and once i even walked in and he had all 3 of em cuddled round him on the sofa! ”stupid cats wont leave me alone” he says ”keep following me” he says! lolz
i had a dog that lasted 9yrs dispite being a runt and having arthritis, its supprising how far a little love goes
I should be very, very sad if I did not have dogs. Do not try to live without dogs. They are the Very Best Thing.
I lasted 3 weeks. Empty house is definitely the ‘loneleez’… First BeBe…then we rescued Ming. Now there’s no such thing as loneleez around here. There’s also no such thing as an empty lap when you watch tv. It’s good to have pugs.
I’m glad you adopted that dog!
Buddy was a rescue, and he died at the ripe old age of 16.5 years.

Awwww I don’t know why it says dunno source on the picture! It is actually my picture that I uploaded and captioned. I took it at the Capital Area Humane Society almost three years ago. This little girl wasn’t actually as sad as she looks, she was very sweet and friendly, and was adopted very soon after this!
Thank you for the background information. It’s great to know that the pup found a good home and was more skilled at turning on the sad eyes than actually sad.

There should be a pic like this posted once a week. This made me want to adopt again but I have no more room, I already have a total of 4 rescues including the cat. Here’s to hoping there’ll be more pics like this so we can get more people looking in the shelters.

i totally agree.
i think this a great, non-propaganda or in your face way of informing a lot of people of the beauty & benefits of adoption. so i totally agree that there should be more shelter pix! i know i could take a lot of shelter pix because i volunteer at one weekly but idk if i’d get any pictures cuter than this one.
i would love to adopt more but i have three dogs & 5 cats.

Awwwwww……… we adopted a dog from the SPCA 3 years ago. He was abused, as well as returned to the shelter twice. Ever since we got him, he’s been so sweet and gentle, even though he’s huge and has a scary bark. He’s the perfect dog, loyal, gentle, and sweet, and I wish everyone could experience the happiness we have gotten from this dog
