In my circle this is known as a bag-nosed whortle (canid version). The feline bag-nosed whortle is more entertaining because it’s possible to cover the cat’s eyes with the sock. I’m not advocating this mind you, although I have seen it done and the (male) cat forgave his owner in good time. Oddly enough, the discoverer of the bag-nosed whortle is named Catt.
