Bacon tastes good, no matter how cute it may be.
Just to note: some places in this world (mostly in Asia) people think puppies taste good too. ;_; IMO, sometimes taste is not a good enough reason. (Piggies are as smart as dogs, chickens and fish are not… cows, I dunno.)
Different cultures look on different animals in ways we don’t. They don’t necessarily anthropomorphise animals the way we do here–they don’t look at them as “clever” or “affectionate” the way we do, and so it’s a very easy decision: since humans have opposable thumbs and what we consider the gift of reason, and since animals don’t, animals become fuds.
It doesn’t make it feel any better to know it, I know. But part of being human is accepting other humans’ points of view (even if we disagree).

saying pigs are as smart (they are actually smarter) than dogs as a reason to not eat them..then stating chickens and fish etc are not as smart therefore implying it’s okay to eat them..IS SILLY. and dumb. to say it is ok to eat one animal but not another is irrational. espec if it’s based on intelligence. if it’s bad to eat one animal, then it should be BAD to eat them all. in my opinion, it’s really not ok to eat animals at all. i don’t care if all animals had the IQ of 10, i would not eat it. but that’s me. but don’t go around implying it’s ok to eat chickens bc they are dumb. they are actually not, and they endure a lot of torture and painful lives
egg laying chickens, unless free range (rare) have their beaks seared off with a hot cleaver. the beak is their most sensitive body part. think about your most sensitive body part..do you want it seared off with my steaming hot, blue cleaver?
fish are brought up from their depths at extreme speeds, killing them painfully from the compression.
