and if anyone is still reading this, how can you tell the difference between a minpin and a …small doberman?
There are no small/miniature Dobermans. Well, okay there are some that are smaller in stature, but not a different breed. What many people mistake for and call a Mini Dobie is a Manchester Terrier, which looks quite a lot like a tiny little Dobie. However, it’s a very different breed altogether, developed in Manchester, England.
A Miniature Pinscher will have a slightly more rounded forehead and can remind some of what it would look like to cross a Dobie with a Chihuahua. Though their heads (Min Pins) aren’t as bulbous as those of Chihuahuas, there is still a similar appeal to them, as well as their noses. The Min Pin’s nose also is shorter than that of a Doberman Pinscher. Though both breeds were developed in Germany, they are very different from each other.
Min Pins also tend to be pretty high-energy dogs and can get high strung and even neurotic without proper exercise, but then so can any dog. For more information on any breed, along with pictures of what is considered the current standard for any AKC breed, you can go to akc.org as well as other dog-related web sites.
